Student Speak: Year 5
This semester, the Year 5 students have been diving into an amazing project called Hub Market - a dynamic blend of real-world learning and creativity! Through this project, they’ve been mastering skills across Art and Design, Business, Civics and Citizenship, Design and Technology, Digital Technology, English, Maths and Performing Arts. Working in teams, students dream up a unique business idea, design and prototype a product and then pitch their concept to our Business Manager, all to secure a school loan for launching their product!
The excitement has been building up, as each group undertakes the bulk production process for the grand Hub Market event! Here, they showcase and sell their creations to an enthusiastic crowd of students from Prep to Year 6. At the end, they repay their loans and any profits earned go to a meaningful cause - supporting the charity they’ve researched in Christian Studies. Let’s hear from some of our Year 5 students about their experiences so far!
‘We are making badges for Hub Market. The badges have themes like sports, food and Webster. We have learnt how the badge maker works and it has been fun getting to design the pictures for the badges and to colour them in. We are also proud of the amount of badges we have been able to produce; and getting better at our teamwork skills.’ - Noah, Ryder and Xavier
‘Our group is painting on rocks for Hub Market. Our store name is ‘Rocks are Us’. My favourite is the cat naps. I have liked making the rock prints with my friends. I have learnt how to work better with my friends.’ - Harry, Krish and Elijah
‘My group and I are making pencil cases for Hub Market. We are most proud of how well we have worked together and how high quality our products are. Our favourite thing was the creating process and having a business. Something we have learnt this term is how challenging it can be to work around things not going well.’ - Ava, Savannah and Eshwin
‘We are making infinite cube fidgets. We are most proud of the quality and also our teamwork. Our favourite thing has been that we have been able to be a part of the production process of a product! Our biggest learning from this has been realising that we are all different with different skills.’ - Darcy, Aaron, Calen and Kartik
‘We are making slap bands and key rings for Hub Market. We are most proud of how many products we have managed to make in the time frame. Our favourite thing has been the actual creating process like when we could draw and use the hot glue. Our biggest learning has been working out ways to work in different environments and when we don’t agree on something.’ - Gracie, Isabel and Emily
