Pastoral Care in Term 2
Pastoral Care lessons in Term 2 will continue to explore Play Is The Way and The Zones of Regulation. Play Is The Way is a social and emotional learning methodology that uses physically interactive games, activities and guiding concepts to foster empathy and personal growth in students. Supporting Play Is The Way, are five key concepts that help students to be independent, self-regulating, self-motivated learners in persistent pursuit of their personal best and who are able to get along with others.
● Treat others as you would like them to treat you;.
● Be brave - participate to progress;
● Pursue your personal best no matter who you work with;
● Have reasons for the things you say and do; and
● It takes great strength to be sensible.
These concepts are unpacked as a class and put into practice using activities, games and scenarios that encourage student reflection, critical thinking and discussion. Our Term 2 focus is: Be brave - participate to progress and pursue your personal best no matter who you work with.
You may have also heard your child/children talk about their ‘zones’ and what ‘colour’ they are in. In Term 1, students identified the Zones of Regulation, categorising states of alertness and emotions into four coloured zones. Term 2 now sees students explore ways to support their ability to self-regulate their emotions. Pastoral care lessons this term will see students identify how each
different coloured zone and emotion looks and feels personally for them and how this is different between their peers. In Terms 3 and 4, students will develop strategies with ‘tools’ to help regulate their emotions between the different zones.
